We decided a toga party was in order to keep up the crews already high moral. We decorated the cockpit with make shift bunting made from courtesy flags, scraped some of the last of our snacks for canapés. Then as 4.30 came around the costumes were being prepared. Freyja came out first looking like a toga goddess (she's obviously done this one before!!) Abe appeared in a Jesus like costume with his sarongs and some spare rope as a belt...(definitely done this before!!) Pippa and Esmé appeared shortly after looking every bit Grecian royalty. We worked out this wasn’t really our half way party, more roughly our 4/5 of the way party! Any reason for a celebration and a chance to be silly.
The music was blaring and the cocktails (non-alcoholic of course...almost!) were flowing and we danced the night away...(Or would have if it hadn't started to chuck it down with rain that is). Hastily packing everything away we sailed on, heading over the Puerto Rico trench, one of the deepest trenches in the world.
With only a day and a half to go until were due to arrive in Puerto Rico and the weather had taken a turn from the balmy sunshine we had had so far. We closed all the hatches and dug out our foul weather gear to have on standby. We were ready for the rolly night ahead.
The next morning mean looking squalls with huge black cumulus clouds hung around us. Fully reefed we had 'Slowy' surfing down the waves and loving every minute. She's a tough little cookie. Those unlucky enough to be on watch during the squalls had to endure the lashing rain and relentless wind.
We sighted land mid afternoon through a break in the clouds and squalls. Much to our delight as night fell, the rain cleared giving us safe passage into Puerto Real and our home for the next few days.
Hola Puerto Rico!
