Paradise Island - Shroud Cay

Only 6 miles south of Norman’s Cay we found ourselves gazing upon the beautiful island of Shroud Cay. It didn't take long for us to award it the nick name of "paradise island".

Talking to other cruisers along the way they had told us that this would be the highlight of our trip trough the Exuma islands... they were not mistaken.

We took our dinghy and paddle boards up a shallow inlet, surrounded by Mangroves. These waterways serve as important nurseries for many delicate species of plant and marine life. Our waterway weaved its way through the center of island to the Atlantic Ocean on the other side. As we rounded the final corner we were all struck silent with awe as the most breathtaking beach came into view, looking at each other to check it was real we gazed on at all the shades of blue water twinkling against the soft white sand.

We stayed for most of the afternoon playing in the waves and laughing at how we had stumbled into heaven....the only thing missing was a piña colada!
Freyja and Pippa messed about in the surf attempting various and not always successful acrobatic and gymnastic maneuvers whilst Abe went coral hunting.

We all could have stayed forever if it weren't for the fact that our tummies were rumbling even after the provisions we had taken with us. We reluctantly headed back to the boat....this much to our entertainment didn't prove as easy as it sounds, With the tide out and our previously route high and dry we drove our dinghy along the coast line to find another way through the mangroves.. Our gallant little tender wound its way through increasingly shallow depths until Finally we could go no further. The prop whipped up the white sandy bottom, so we jumped out and waded our dinghy through the crystal clear water making for slow but beautiful progress...

Arriving back on the boat peckish and hot, we all soon fell into a contented slumber in the lazy afternoon sun dreaming of our own little paradise....
