Bound for the Exuma Islands

It was an early start for the crew of Slow Flight today, it was the first morning since arrival that we had to wake up with an alarm (tomorrow Esme fully expects to be woken by a herd of great whites bashing into the hull) we had a 30 mile trip across the water to the Exuma Islands ahead of us. We were all looking forward to some swimming, paddle boarding and a well earnt Pina colada!

The waters in the area hover around 12 feet deep which took some getting used to as we spent most of our trip weaving our way through the clusters of razor sharp coral heads that were sporadically peppered along the sea bed.

After successfully navigating our way to Highbourne Cay (the Northern most island in the Exuma chain) we were looking forward to our first dip into the crystal clear water. However we were then slightly put off by the very large ominous looking shark that swam under our bow as we dropped our anchor. Abe unperturbed by the shark jumped off the side for a swim and a snorkel as the girls opted for the tender for a trip to the secluded white sandy beach for a play.

As we headed towards the beach we made a small detour via a fellow cruising boat and where lucky enough to meet little Pepper the Yorkshire terrier and his owners who shared some of their local wisdom with us.

After a splash and a paddle on the beach we jumped in the tender and headed for the nearest bar. First Pina Coladas of the holiday... Done!!

Big love as always
